Indosoft extends SIP over TCP support to User Extensions in its Q-Suite 5.9 Call Center Software

Indosoft, Inc., developers of contact center software for more than a decade, announce the availability of SIP over TCP configuration for all SIP devices in Q-Suite 5.9. Q-Suite is their flagship software suite, offering a full contact center ACD (Automatic Call Distributor) system on Asterisk to users all over the world. Adding SIP over TCP support to all SIP devices gives users an additional option for connecting to this system. 

The history of Voice over IP (VoIP) has primarily involved User Datagram Protocol (UDP), a fast and efficient method of sending bytes between two points. UDP has traditionally been used for real-time transmission of data, such as voice traffic. UDP allows for dropped and out-of-order packets, which are usually simply discarded in favour of avoiding delay. SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) can usually work around dropped packets by resending requests where necessary. 

In some cases it turns out to be better to avoid the potential shortcomings of UDP entirely. In Cloud-based or remote call centers, a mix of technologies may be needed. In these cases, SIP over TCP provides real advantages, including reliability of the connection. Providers and equipment suppliers have recently been supporting SIP over TCP in increasing numbers. Adding this option to Q-Suite gives call centers a new set of options they can use, including allowing some or all agent devices to use TCP or UDP.
